because it rained

jumped into rain coats
all buttoned up,
and lept into the grass
the earth wet beneath
their toes,
faces upwards
and hands to rejoice
in the falling drops,
delighted sprinkles
that alight upon her
nose, crinkled
with the expectation
of the fall,
and they danced in the rain
all that summer afternoon.
